What is Arbitrum?
Arbitrum is a Layer 2 scaling solution built on top of Ethereum that uses optimistic rollup technology to dramatically increase transaction throughput while maintaining Ethereum's security guarantees. Optimistic Rollups
Arbitrum assumes transactions are valid by default ("optimistic") and only runs computation in case of disputes. This approach dramatically reduces the amount of data that needs to be stored on Ethereum.
Fraud Proofs
If someone suspects a fraudulent transaction, they can challenge it during a dispute period. The Arbitrum protocol then verifies the transaction on Ethereum mainnet to determine the truth.
EVM Compatibility
Arbitrum is fully compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), meaning developers can deploy existing Ethereum dApps without any code changes.
